Join Woodworking Travel Tours for an immersive journey through Denmark and Sweden, where woodworking tradition, modern design, and toolmaking excellence come together. Hosted by Phil Huber of Woodsmith and Logan Wittmer of Popular Woodworking, this eight-day tour offers behind-the-scenes access to renowned workshops, museums, and makers—from iconic furniture studios and bench builders to legendary axe and tool manufacturers. Along the way, you’ll explore Scandinavian craft culture, connect with fellow woodworkers, and gain inspiration you’ll bring back to your own shop.

Itinerary

DETAILS

Day 1, September 20, 2026: Arrival at Copenhagen airport and Welcome Dinner

Arrive at Copenhagen airport and check into the hotel before enjoying a welcome dinner at a local restaurant.

Day 2, September 21, 2026: Viking Craft & Historic Cathedral

Visit the Viking Ship Museum to explore historic boatbuilding, followed by the Roskilde Cathedral including a tour under the Cathedral roof. To end the evening, we will enjoy dinner at a local restaurant.

Day 3, September 22, 2026: Danish Design & Historic Tools

Tour the Design Museum Danmark and visit Roskilde Museum of Tools, showcasing traditional Scandinavian hand tools and trades. Dinner will be on your own this evening.

Day 4, September 23, 2026: Workshops & Workbenches

Travel into Sweden to visit Sjöbergs Workshop, world-renowned for professional woodworking benches. Then explore the Röhsska Museum of Design and Craft. End the evening with dinner at the hotel.

Day 5, September 24, 2026: Craft Education & Design Museums

Visit the Sätergläntan Institute for Craft, a leading center for traditional Scandinavian woodworking and handcraft. Dinner will be at the hotel to end the evening.

Day 6, September 25, 2026: Tools & Timber

Go behind the scenes at Gränsfors Bruk, famous for hand-forged axes. End the evening with dinner in the hotel.

Day 7, September 26, 2026: Living History in Stockholm

Visit Skansen, the world's oldest open-air museum, before enjoying free time to explore Stockholm's museums, shops, and historic districts. Dinner will be at the hotel to end the evening.

Day 8, September 27, 2026: Departure

Depart and travel home, bringing back inspiration drawn from centuries of Nordic craftsmanship.

Logan Wittmer

Editor in Chief, Popular Woodworking

Logan’s true love, apart from his family, is the craft of woodworking. Having caught the woodworking bug in middle school, Logan attended the University of Northern Iowa studying Graphic Communications with the intent of, one day, working at a woodworking magazine. After spending a portion of his career in the print industry, Logan became an Assistant Editor at Woodsmith magazine before taking the reigns at Popular Woodworking. During the spring and fall, Logan’s often found on the water or in the woods hunting and fishing. When summer rolls around, Logan’s often found outside, late into the evenings, covered in sweat and sawdust, running his sawmill.

Executive Editor, Woodsmith Magazine

Phil Huber is the host of the Woodsmith Shop television show and the executive editor of Woodsmith. He teaches woodworking classes for the Des Moines Woodworkers club in central Iowa. In his garage workshop, Phil enjoys building furniture projects, boxes, and carving bowls & spoons for friends and family.
