This small table was inspired by a piece found in the book 'Furniture Treasury' by Wallace Nutting. The original, made of oak and pine, dates to 1700 and is from Newington, CT. Mortise-and-tenon and dovetail joints are used throughout. Some joints are pegged, too. Typical of 18th-century construction, the internal frame serves as an upper drawer runner and provides for a connection to the breadboard top, a departure from the original piece, which had a solid top. The table looks attractive with either a clear finish (shellac), or a milk-paint finish.
